For Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), the selection process consists of:

  • General Ability Test (GAT)
  • Creative Ability Test (CAT)
  • Situation Test for shortlisted candidates

GAT evaluates areas such as Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, Analytical Ability, English Comprehension, General Knowledge, and Current Affairs.

CAT focuses on creativity, design aptitude, visualisation, drawing ability, and innovative thinking.

Candidates shortlisted after GAT and CAT are required to appear for the Situation Test, where they create a three-dimensional model using the materials provided. The test evaluates creativity, material handling, visualisation, composition, innovation, and overall presentation.

B.F.Tech. Entrance Examination

Admission to B.F.Tech. is based on the General Ability Test (GAT). The test evaluates areas including quantitative ability, analytical and logical reasoning, English comprehension, and general knowledge. There is no CAT or Situation Test for B.F.Tech.

M.Des. Entrance Examination

For M.Des., candidates appear for:

  • General Ability Test (GAT)
  • Creative Ability Test (CAT)
  • Personal Interview (PI) for shortlisted candidates

The tests assess creative and analytical abilities, followed by a Personal Interview for candidates shortlisted for the next stage.

M.F.M. and M.F.Tech. Entrance Examination

For M.F.M. and M.F.Tech., candidates are shortlisted through the General Ability Test (GAT), followed by a Personal Interview.

The institute is called the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). It is a statutory institute under the NIFT Act, 2006 and functions under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

NIFT was established in 1986 as India’s first national institute dedicated to fashion education.

NIFT currently has 20 campuses across India. These include campuses in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur, Varanasi, Srinagar and other locations.
